I'm about to comment on one of the pictures of the 'Reuters Soccer Blog':
http://blogs.reuters.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/RTR1Q0VY.thumbnail.jpg

Salience:
In my opinion the "visual weight" of the picture lies on the two players right in the centre of the image. Due to the power of colours it is the white and the red jersey you notice first.
The players are both pictured from a very near distance, and so they take in the focus of the photograph.

The reading path:
I'd say the reading path is from the bottom of the picture to the top. You focus on the two players and their postioning in the image. Afterwards you notice the crowd in the back.

Vectors:
In this photograph you gaze from the left bottom of the page up to the top of the right side, because of the kneeling guy who you notice first. So you can see kind of a vector in the 'arrangement' of the two players.

Compositional axes:
to be honest I can't determine wheather you read through a vertical or a horizontal axis.

Centre and Margin:
Centre of the picture is definitely the two players in front, while the fuzzy background and the lawn give you the information where the actions in the image take place.

I will also comment on the use of pictures in the "Reuters Soccer Blog". Since I've been absent the last time, I'm not completely sure how to do this. The task is to analyse the blog concerning the use of pictures, so I guess this doesn't have anything to do with "Kress & van Leeuwen's grammar of visual design". Oh well, I'm doing this my way.
"Reuters Soccer Blog" is a blog which discusses the latest soccer news but not in an objective way. Moreover it's written in a humorous, ironic way and the function of the picture is to support that effect. All the pictures used in this blog show soccer players with funny facial expressions or awkward movements.

I'd like to comment on one of the pictures of the 'Reuter Soccer Blog', too. I chose the same picture as miss sunshine:
http://blogs.reuters.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/RTR1Q0VY.thumbnail.jpg

Lighting:
In my opinion, the lighting is made up of the key light. It is directed on the subject.

Colour:
Well, there aren't any symbolic meanings in this puicture just because of the colours. The only function of the colours in this picture are that you can see, which player plays for which team.

Modality:
You have to know the text to understand this picture. The headline says "It was just one of those nights".
If you read the text, the picture might become clearer. The text is about "A night when nothing quite went right for Liverpool...".
The red one is a player from Liverpool watching a player from the opposite team praying after they won the match.
According to this, the picture gets a high degree of modality in other words it seems real and credible.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for my way-too-late- post; I couldn't log in and download the handout since I left the login details at home.

I would like to comment a picture of the reuters soccer blog.
My comment is based on this picture:
http://blogs.reuters.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/RTR1Q53T.jpg

MOOD:

I'd say that this is "offer".
Ther persons in the picture don't have eye- contact to the viewer and the viewer doesn't have a direct connection with the soccer- players on the picture.

PERSPECTIVE:

Concerning the vertical angle I guess that we have a low angle... the picture is taken a bit from below, but I don't think that the photographer was laying on the ground while taking this picture. So it is a between low angle and straight on angle.

Ok, now to the horizontal angle:
I think that this is a frontal piont of view.

SOCIAL DISTANCE:

The picture definately has a far social distance, eventhough the person in the foreground has a close social distance.

My post will deal with the first picture of the first post post by J. Nordberg (the one with the skyscraper) on http://werenotafraid.com/dynamic/.

Reading path:
in my opinion the reading path is clearly from the writing to the skyscraper (especailly the condition of the skyscraper) to the odd shadow to the background. The focus lies on the writing since it carries the overall message of the picture.

Vectors:
I think there are only 2 vectors in the picture. the first one is along the writing and the second one is marked by the shape of the shadow on the house.

Lightning:
the use of light in this picture is rather interesting. it could be said that by the shadow which leaves parts of the writing in darkness and makes it harder to read the beginning, the main focus gets changed to the "afraid" (which is clearly in the spotlight). the shadow which resembles to a shadow of a human head could add other possibilities to interprete the image.

Compositional Axes:
the picture can clearly be read in an horizontal axis first then a brief vertical axis can be seen as the focus of the viewer changes from the writing to the shadow.

Salience:
As i said before in the Lightning paragraph the "visual weight" lies clearly on the word "afraid" which catches the viewers eye and attention first.

Sorry for the delay, had my difficulties with getting my hands on the handout and opening it (in fact haven't managed to do so, so i "learnt" by the posts of the other posters)

suggestive symbolic: Statisches Gebäude ohne implizierte Bewegung.

Erzeugt mystische Stimmung, Zweilichtig.

Focus liegt auf afraid, also Angst.
